* We have received reports that container carrier NAWATA BHUM (IMO: 9365685) suffered steering difficulties whilst navigating the Hooghly River, she subsequently allided with the riverbank near Nurpur Ferry Ghat and grounded, on 12 August 2026.
* Initial reports indicate that the vessel did not sustain significant hull damage and there have been no confirmed reports of cargo damage. However, the impact reportedly caused damage to sections of the riverbank.
* Tugs were dispatched to refloat the vessel and she was expected to continue to Kolkata under tug assistance once refloated.
* If General Average is declared, General Average security may also be required from all cargo interests prior to the delivery of their cargo, and we are likely to be able to assist in that regard also.
* We therefore recommend that you contact us urgently if you are concerned with any cargo on board this vessel so that we may immediately start taking steps to protect your interests.
